This junior cadet program introduces its members to naval life through instruction in basic seamanship and leadership. NLCC members are able to participate in monthly drill sessions and during school breaks and in a one-week orientation class as well as in specially-designed annual training sessions. The purpose of the NLCC program is to prepare its cadets for success upon entering NSCC by exposing them to the fundamentals of seamanship and leadership. The training program is less arduous than NSCC's, but still includes a wide variety of away-from-home, one-week training opportunities designed to give cadets exposure to Navy life. 

The senior cadet program exposes its cadets to the full rigors of a military training program. Cadets are required to attend a mandatory two-week recruit training camp. After this requirement is met, cadets are eligible to participate in a variety of advanced training sessions. These sessions serve to expose cadets to seamanship and seagoing subjects. They also focus on developing an appreciation for our country's rich naval history, customs and traditions.  

 Sea Cadet Seafarer is the official publication of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. It is published digitally by NHQ and is focused on notable unit news stories. Seafarer is published on a quarterly basis, with issues in March, June, September, and December.

WILL I BE REQUIRED TO JOIN THE US ARMED FORCES?

No. We are not recruiting for the armed services. Cadets have absolutely no commitment regarding future military service.  

WHAT ARE THE ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS? 

All prospective cadets must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents, and meet our age requirements (ages 10 through the completion of high school). Cadets must be unmarried, drug-free, and alcohol-free. Successful academic progress is required as well (at least a "C" grade point average). Cadet applicants must complete a medical examination similar to a high school sports physical and submit proof of immunization against common diseases.

Cadets must also be physically and mentally able to participate in the basic required activities of the program, such as team-based physical training, close-order military drill, classroom instruction, and overnight away-from-home training programs.

HOW MUCH TIME IS INVOLVED?

One weekend a month for drills in St. Louis and summer and/or winter trainings of your choosing at various locations throughout the country. All trainings are generally 7-14 days long and hosted by other UNSCC units.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? 

A one-time enrollment fee of $275 is due upon entry into the program to cover the costs of uniforms. Monthly dues of $5 and an annual renewal fee for a UNSCC ID of $100 are to be paid to the administration office. Summer and winter training fees vary by training and are generally $100-300.
